EDS updates wiring diagrams for Verizon with WiseImage
EDS - Engineering & Data Solutions, Fitchburg, MA provides large and small document scanning and archiving and printing services to engineering customers. One of the biggest clients is Verizon - a world's leading providers of communications services, with approximately $67 billion in revenues and 221,000 employees. EDS has a total of 45 people devoted to the Verizon project.
Verizon needs to capture and maintain data from a master set of wiring diagrams for each center they maintain. There are many centers, based on population and geography. For instance, Newark NJ has 2000 scanned blueprint images, which is the complete set of wiring diagrams for Newark. The actual wiring changes every day as a result of laying new cable for new buildings, which must be tied back to the network; or new tenants in a building requiring changes to the wiring; or changes to service, etc.
Each change to the actual wiring is done via issuance of an engineering work order. Once the actual work is completed, the closed work order is sent to EDS so that the changes can be reflected in the scanned drawings. EDS downloads the files from Verizon's server and then uses WiseImage's Intelligent Raster Editing technology to update the raster files. Once a month, the processed files are uploaded back to Verizon's server.
IDEAL, Consistent Software's exclusive partner in the US helped EDS to win the Verizon contract by showing EDS how quickly and efficiently they could deal with raster images using WiseImage. The timesavings enabled EDS to win the Verizon contract, as the contract was based on hourly rates. Moreover, EDS specialists have delineated that the WiseImage is a solution that is easy to use compared to other software solutions.
EDS currently has 25 seats of WiseImage Basic, which is used by the 45 people who are on the project. EDS expects to hire 17 more people and will purchase additional seats of WiseImage to support them.
